James M. Watt, CML CPS CAL
James began his career as a locksmith when he purchased Art and Ray’s Lock Shop from his Father-in-law in 1975. Through out his career as a locksmith, he has become Montana’s first Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) Registered Locksmith (RL) in 1985; Montana’s first ALOA Certified Professional Locksmith (CPL) in 1985; Montana’s first ALOA Certified Master Locksmith (CML) in 1986, Montana’s first Safe and Vault Technology Association (SAVTA) Certified Professional Technician (CPS) in 1989, and Montana’s First Certified Automotive Locksmith (CAL) in 2012.
In 1985, James jointly formed the Montana Locksmith Association (MLA) with Jack Havens from Helena, which is till active to this day. James served as its first President until 1987. He presided over the first MLA convention by which locksmiths in Montana and the nearby areas could further their locksmith education without having to travel great distances. James received the ALOA Certified Education (ACE) instructor designation in 1993 and since then has instructed fellow locksmiths all over the US, Canada, and Japan on many subjects of locksmithing.
In 1987, James was elected to the ALOA Board of Directors as the NW Director. A year later, James was elected Northwest Vice President of ALOA and served another nine years before retiring from the ALOA Board as an ALOA Lifetime Member in 1997. He was also elected Lifetime Member of SAVTA 1996 for work done in that association.
James has received many awards fin his career including the Lee Rodgen Award given the Greater Philadelphia Locksmith Association in 1997 for his continuing efforts to foster co-operation between locksmith associations around the world.
IN 2003, James was awarded “The Philadelphia Award” the world locksmith industry’s award equivalent to an “Academy Award” for his work in Education and Service to the industry.
In 2012, James received the ALOA Lifetime of Achevement Award (ALOA). At ALOA’s Annual Convention in Las Vegas. This is the highest award given each year by the Associate Locksmith of America.
